New Online Reader, 3 New Languages, UI Changes
April 2026 - monthly update
Welcome to the UOTI Newsletter!
The Universal Open Textbook Initiative (UOTI) is building the world’s largest repository of high-quality, multilingual, free textbooks. We believe access to learning materials should not depend on where you live, what language you speak, or what you can afford.
From now on, this is where we’ll share updates about our platform. Subscribe to stay up to date about new textbooks, translations, and features.
Here’s what’s new.
A brand new online reading experience
You can now read textbooks directly in your browser, no download required.
The new reader includes chapter navigation, dark mode, and adjustable font sizes for comfortable study sessions.
It works on phones and tablets too.
So far, 69 of our 95 textbooks are already available for online reading, with more being migrated over the coming weeks. To try it, open any textbook on uotinitiative.org and click Read Online.
New translations
We recently published our first translations in three new languages:
Bengali — Introduction to Business
Arabic — Introduction to Python Programming
Chinese — Calculus: Volume 1
These join our existing English, Spanish, and Polish catalog, bringing UOTI to six languages in total. More translations are already in progress.
Other improvements
• Grade equivalents: Each textbook now includes language-appropriate equivalent grade levels across education systems. For example, English textbooks include equivalents for the educational systems of the US, UK, India, Nigeria, and so forth, making it easier for educators to find age-appropriate material.
• Redesigned book detail pages: We’ve introduced a cleaner two-column layout, improved metadata display, and made the Read Online and Download PDF buttons more prominent.
By the Numbers
Textbooks — 95
Languages — 6
